Why is an innocent man still on death row and who’s responsible if he dies there?


While the rest of us shelter in place, Walter Ogrod is on Pennsylvania’s death row. He checks all the boxes on the list of symptoms for the Coronavirus disease: high fever, cough, shortness of breath. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Conviction Integrity Unit says that he’s “likely innocent.” The DA’s office says he should be released from prison. We’re all set for a hearing where both sides agree that the right thing to do is to release Walter. But the hearing has been canceled because of the pandemic. The mind boggles. Read on.
