A Story of Justice and Power: For the People
Philadelphia’s district attorney offers an inspiring vision of how people can take back power to reform criminal justice, based on lessons from a life’s work as an advocate for the accused. Larry Krasner spent thirty years as a civil rights and criminal defense lawyer working to find justice for his clients before deciding that the way to really transform the broken system was from the inside.
He launched an unlikely campaign to become the district attorney of Philadelphia, a city known for its “tough on crime” prosecutors who routinely sought the death penalty, high incarceration rate, and repeated credible complaints of police and prosecutorial misconduct. Despite long odds and derisive opposition from the police union and other forces of the status quo, Krasner made the simple case for radical reform and promised that he would never seek the death penalty. He was elected district attorney by a margin of nearly 50% in the November 2017 election.
People in the City of Brotherly Love and across the country are using their power to redefine our criminal legal system. Join us.
