Internships

Interns play a key role in our organization and are given responsibility accordingly, working on substantial projects and products. Internships are unpaid, but we will provide supervision for academic credit. This is a great opportunity for hands-on, practical experience and for interacting with individuals and organizations that work on human rights issues. Most work can be done remotely. GPA 3.25 or higher required.

We have several internships available and we accept applications on a rolling basis. Please read the descriptions below and decide which one(s) you’re interested in.

Catholic Outreach Intern

Pope Francis has called on Catholics to work together to end the use of capital punishment. During his visit to the United States last September, he emphasized that the death penalty is inconsistent with the church’s teachings. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of a fundamental change in our justice system.

Interns will:

educate, recruit, and organize Pennsylvania Catholics and other people of faith in support of ending capital punishment;

work collaboratively with organizations including student groups, the Catholic Mobilizing Network, the Pennsylvania Council of Churches and other social justice groups;

meet with faith leaders to establish partnerships;

share information with our target audience, sometimes in formal presentations. This will include writing in several different media, including: letters to the editor, blog posts, online article comments, social media, instructional material, letters to elected officials and other community leaders; and

conduct research.

When possible, interns will attend capital trials and write about their observations. It would be helpful if applicants were familiar with at least two forms of social media.

Qualifications

Knowledge of Catholic Church teachings and experience with Catholic organizations such as a parish, college, or school. Superior interpersonal and relationship-building skills are required. Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration. Successful applicants must be creative and have strong writing skills; Demonstrated ability to manage projects and work with minimal supervision; Reliability; ability to respond to breaking news.


 

Activism and Organizing Intern

Interns will be educating, recruiting, organizing and mobilizing PA residents as part of our strategy to end capital punishment in Pennsylvania. Interns will also work collaboratively with organizations including student groups, ACLU, NAACP; Catholic Conference, PA Council of Churches, political organizations and social justice groups. Interns will be sharing information with our target audience, sometimes in formal presentations. This will include writing in several different media, including letters to the editor, blog posts, online article comments, social media, instructional material, letters to elected officials and other community leaders. When possible, interns will attend capital trials and write about their observations.

Qualifications

Experience working with groups, influencing and educating both in small groups and individuals. Persuasion and communication skills must be superior. Successful applicants must be creative and have strong writing skills; Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and to work with minimal supervision; Reliability; Ability to respond to breaking news.


 

Data Collection and Analysis Intern

Interns must have the ability to collect, analyze, and condense data and prepare it so that it is meaningful and visually attractive. You will be working with research studies to create messages that will resonate with specific audiences. When possible, interns will also attend capital trials and write about their observations. Work will be done remotely.

Qualifications

Experience in data analysis and research, creating charts and graphs, creating compelling visuals. Fluency in Microsoft Excel. Applicants must have demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and to work with minimal supervision; Reliability; ability to respond to breaking news.


 

Research and Writing Intern

Interns will be conducting research and writing in several different media, including: letters to the editor, blog posts, online article comments, social media, instructional material, letters to elected officials and other community leaders.

Qualifications

Strong writing skills; Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and to work with minimal supervision; Reliability; Must be able to respond quickly to breaking news. Interns must have the ability to condense data into messages that will resonate with specific audiences. When possible, interns will attend capital trials and write about their observations.


Conservative Activist and Organizing Intern

Interns will be educating, recruiting, organizing and mobilizing PA residents that identify as politically and socially conservative as part of our strategy to end capital punishment in Pennsylvania. Interns will work collaboratively with organizations including Conservatives Concerned About the Death Penalty, Constitution Project, Catholic Conference, Red Letter Christians, law enforcement, student, community and political groups. Interns will be sharing information with our target audience, sometimes in formal presentations. This will include writing in several different media, including: letters to the editor, blog posts, online article comments, social media, instructional material, letters to elected officials and other community leaders. When possible, interns will attend capital trials and write about their observations.

Qualifications

Must identify as a political and social conservative. Experience working with groups, influencing and educating both in small groups and one-on-one. Persuasion and communication skills must be superior. Successful applicants must be creative and have strong writing skills; Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and to work with minimal supervision; Reliability; Ability to respond to breaking news.


Social Media Intern

Qualifications

Must have experience using two or more social media channels such as facebook, twitter, snapchat, instagram, etc.; ability to work with minimal supervision; ability to manage projects; enthusiastic learner; must be available to respond quickly to breaking news.
